About Troma EntertainmentTroma was started by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz in 1974 and has been producing their unique brand of independent movies non-stop. Troma's films have a solid cult following, and are unique in that they are well known in the mainstream Hollywood circles, even though their films are not mainstream pictures. Troma films are known for their use of very shocking imagery; some would categorize them as "shock exploitation films". They typically contain overt sexuality, graphic violence, gore and nudity, so much that the term "Troma Film" has become synonymous with these characteristics. The Troma slogan is Movies of the Future. Troma has had a keen eye for emerging talent, having produced or acquired early films with Kevin Costner, Samuel L. Jackson, Marisa Tomei, James Gunn, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Their latest production, Poultrygeist, will be released late 2006, as well as a DVD set featuring all the films by Ruben Rodriguez (director) in the Summer of 2006.
Some of their more famous Troma movies, which are available on EZTakes, include The Toxic Avenger series (I, II, III and IV), Tromeo and Juliet, The Class of Nuke 'Em High, Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD, Cannibal! The Musical, Terror Firmer and Blood Sucking Freaks. In addition, the documentary film All The Love You Cannes (much of it shot by Lloyd Kaufman himself!) chronicles the Troma team in action at the 2001 Cannes film festival in France.
