Several of India's most noted actors lead us through a playful romantic farce reminiscent of the Hollywood screwball comedies of the 30s and 40s. Hazari Prasad is a notorious miser and his son Raaja is the exact opposite. Hazari Prasad hopes to marry his son to a rich man's daughter and get dowry in exchange. Mr. Mehra, a millionaire with just one daughter, Madhu, is just the man Hazari Prasad is looking for.
As time passes, Hazari Prasad and Mehra become bosom friends while their children, Madhu and Raaja, hate each other. Their fathers are extremely disappointed, especially Hazari Prasad, who sees his dreams of a fat dowry going down the drain. In college, Raaja and Madhu warm to each other. Hate changes to love and their fathers waste no time in setting an engagement date.
On the eve of the engagement, Hazari Prasad's bhanda is broken. Mr. Mehra got to know the truth about Hazari Prasad, who is pretending to be a millionaire to trap him and his daughter. He immediately breaks off the engagement, humiliates Hazari Prasad and throws him out. Best friends become worst enemies. But Love, as we know, only listens to the heart - the dil.
