"Lori & Cathy Get Married" is a warm, funny, joyous look at gay marriage in San Francisco. Going inside San Francisco City Hall during the historic days of February 2004, the video follows a lesbian couple through the marriage process and on their weding reception with friends and family in Napa, California.

  Perhaps the best way to summarize the brief documentary Lori and Cathy Get Married would be “short and sweet.” Unfortunately, there’s not much else to it. The documentary follows one particular couple, Lori and Cathy, as they join the flood of gay and lesbian couples rushing to San Francisco in 2004 in order to receive marriage licenses. The film pursues a rather homemade feel, the camera bobbing about as though handheld. The approach lends the movie a scarcely needed air of authenticity and sincerity. Largely however, the infectious joy of the couples makes this short so watchable.
  
  The movie devoutly follows the less than enthralling wait and paperwork filed at San Francisco’s City Hall, then the small wedding ceremony (of several couples), topped off at last by Cathy and Lori’s celebratory party. The couple caps the film by declaring that their wedding was not a political, but personal. For all that director Joe Hullinger tries to keep Lori and Cathy within the personal sphere, the political storm surrounding gay marriage manages to sneak into brief snippets of the film, largely via news clips. Whatever the viewer’s take on the issue, Lori and Cathy remains short and sweet, but somewhat staid.
