Ace detective Craig Kennedy (Jack Mulhall) is working on a case to uncover the identity of "The Clutching Hand", a cloaked villain who has kidnapped a scientist and his secret formula for manufacturing synthetic gold. Aided by newspaper reporter Walter Jameson (Rex Lease) and his girlfriend Verna Gironda (Marion Shilling), the scientist's Daughter, the trio desperately searches for the missing scientist and his formula, before "The Clutching Hand" does away with Dr. Gironda and uses his formula to disrupt the world's gold supply.
