Richard Dix stars as a western lawman, John Bonniwell, and Jane Wyatt as a rancher's daughter named Eleanor Sager. After running the James Gang out of town, Bonniwell is appointed marshal by local big shot, Steve Barat (Albert Dekker), who turns out to be a crook. Barat hopes to use Bonniwell to help in his rise to power. A love triangle also develops between Bonniwell, Eleanor and Barat's brother Jeff (Victor Jory).
