| Customer Comments | | Reviewer: Tarheel on 02/09/07 | | | This was Ava Gardner's second movie based on Ernest Hemingway's novel. She did an exquisite performance combined with sensuality, humor, sadness and just being Ava -- a beauty that cannot be replaced. She had a small part but the most important role in this movie as it affected the character performed by Gregory Peck. He lost her and found her when it was too late; but their love was just as strong when he tried to comfort and save her from thethe injuries she suffered from the tragic bomb attack on he ambulance she was driving. She had fled from him because she thought being with him was holding him back from being a journalist. If she had only waited a little longer, she would have known that his journalistic assignments were of less importance compared to her being with him. She tried to compensate for her leaving him and being with other men by being part of the Spanish war - by driving the wounded to safety. She was wounded but prayed for and was with Gregory Peck in answer to her prayers.
The movie was well directed and the stars (I am biased - sorry) did very well. But, as you can tell from the previous paragraphs, I thought Ms G brought the most drama to the film - here again her persona showed through her character on film. I enjoy seeing the movie repeatedly. |
