This is the first screen adaptation of the classic Ernest Hemingway novel. Screen legends Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes portray Lt. Henry, the officer, and Catherine, the nurse, who find true love amidst the horror of World War I. Trying to stop our young lovers is Adolph Menjou as Major Rinaldi, the man jealous of the love between the young lieutenant and the English Red Cross nurse. This touching tale demonstrates that in spite of the miles between them and the obstacles in their way, love does find a way of uniting people.
