Plot

"INGENIOUS!" - VARIETY

Here's a film ripe for those who love the joy of discovery of overlooked little gems of cinema. It's a clever example of applying technology and imagination to a cunningly sly talent for black comedy. If CELEBRATION and AFTER THE WEDDING, this is right up your alley.

Owing no small debt to Jim McBride's seminal underground feature, David Holzman's Diary (1967), the film begins as Iva's father, who has brought an important business associate to his daughter's sixteenth birthday dinner party, gives his daughter a video camera as her gift. When Iva uses her new camera to record the evening, she reveals her bourgeois family to itself in surprising and disturbing ways. While the camera rolls, the family squabbles and fights, loves and laughs, and a microcosmic portrait of the tensions of modern Croatian society is rendered with intensity and humor. Excellent acting and precise direction make Tomislav Radic's triumphant return to filmmaking a unique and rewarding experience.
