Dewey Time The Sound Of A Giant

Dewey Time: The Sound of a Giant

Plot

As the noted jazz historian Stanley Crouch so aptly puts it, "when saxophonist Dewey Redman plays, smoke and flames shoot out of his bell." Daniel Berman's often-tender film examines a highly respected, highly musical and highly imaginative improviser, who has influenced a legion of today's highly regarded musicians. One of the last of a generation to emerge from the culture and music of the segregated/depression era South, Redman had a lasting impression on musicians and audiences around the world. Featured interviews include Joe Lovano, Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden, Stanley Crouch and, of course, Dewey's famous saxophonist son, Joshua Redman.

Reviews:

"Berman knows exactly how to capture the late night moods of both the music and the man" -The Toronto Star
